About us

Childhood and adolescence are periods of rapid learning and brain maturation. During these stages, individuals are particularly open to experiences that can support or undermine the development of social, emotional, and cognitive skills that are crucial for well-being and success across life. In the Biobehavioral Adjustment and Neurodevelopment (BAND) Lab, our research focuses on building and testing developmental models that explain individual differences in risk, resilience, and thriving. These models consider environmental factors such as close relationships and stressful events, as well as biological factors like brain function and structure. We are interested in the development of prosocial emotions and actions, but also early indicators of risk for psychopathology. Our research uses techniques from developmental psychology and neuroscience (e.g., non-invasive neuroimaging).

Our DEI Commitment

In our lab Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are core values. Our work thrives on the belief that diverse experiences shape development. We actively promote an inclusive culture that appreciates and embraces distinctions, establishing an inviting environment where all individuals feel acknowledged and empowered to contribute their distinct strengths. DEI is more than a principle to us; it is an integral part of our lab's essence, fostering respect, celebrating differences, and promoting well-being. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion enriches our research, reflecting the vibrant scientific community we represent.
